Figurine Series A few years ago I started making small figurines as a way to explore mypersonal style. It was repeatable and entertaining, and a good way to playwith new materials in between larger projects. Initially I wasn’t quite sure what to do with my littlecreatures. I felt compelled to share them, but selling themdidn’t feel right. So I started giving them away. I carry a bag of fish in mypurse to give to strangers or slip in someone’s pocket whenthey’re not looking. I give little demons as gifts to my friends.Sometimes they get to choose, and sometimes I choose forthem. Unexpectedly, the creatures have started to find their wayback to me. One of my fish appeared on the shelf at myfavorite bar. Another is on the shelf at the restaurantwhere I work. There are creatures in my friend’s housesand on their social media pages. Every time I see an NPRTiny Desk video I look for a frog I made on the shelf. It is a deeply human thing to want to leave a mark. Asign that you were once in a place that meanssomething to you. This has become my way of showingI was here, in places and with people that I love.
